Best Soundproof Windows
Soundproof windows are relatively self explanatory - they block out noise from entering a home. The majority of homes in the United States don't require special windows to attenuate exterior noise. In fact, in most cases, upgrading from older single pane windows to a quality double pane vinyl window is enough to dampen quite a bit of the exterior noise.
However, for those homeowners who live in loud and noisy areas due to their proximity to an airport, freeway, etc. - soundproofing options are a legitimate need. Here are our selections for the best soundproof windows on the market and a very general price point that you can expect to pay. One additional note: just because you install noise-attenuating windows, doesn't mean that you won't hear outside noises. If your walls are not properly insulated, even the best soundproofing windows aren't going to do the trick.
Harvey Acoustic Windows
The Acoustic Series is a vinyl sound attentuation window that has an STC rating of 44 in the double hung, rolling and picture window options. The casement Acoustic option has an STC rating of 40, which is decent but definitely not as solid as the 44.
Performance wise, the Acoustic with grids should achieve the folowing ratings: .26 U-factor, .25 SHGC, .42 VT and a 3.85 R-value. While not one of the best soundproof windows out there, the Acoustic is a nice affordable soundproofing option.

Milgard Quiet Line
The Quiet Line is considered the Cadillac of soundproof windows. It's almost like buying two windows in one, each window is double glazed and has an sound panel in between the two exterior window panes that actually looks like a window inside a window. However, the entire unit is built as one, which creates two air gaps that are essential for deadening exterior sound from entering through the window.
While a normal double pane window has an STC rating around 30, the Milgard Quietline typically has an STC window rating of 46. Of course, this sound control window has a big bulky frame, strong corner welds and high quality seals and glazing that all work together to stop urban noises from entering the home.

Amsco Serenity windows
he Amsco Serenity is a soundproofing window or noise reduction window that provides a decent low-cost alternative to some of the more expensive soundproofing window options out there. The Serenity window will attain an STC rating of 40 to 47 and uses a 5 5/8 inch width frame with multiple chambers. It uses fusion corner welds, a positive action lock, and interlocking meeting rail and a block and tackle balancing system.
In addition, the window has a 3/4 inch IGU with an intercept spacer, three different glass options and several different grid configurations as well. An upgraded glass option will provide a .06 air infiltration rating and a U value as low as .22. The window uses a different design than other soundproof windows that rely on the PVB interlayer for the glass, but the Serenity design is nonetheless effective. Installers have mentioned the absence of any durometer seal and poor quality glazing bead as design flaws.

Indow Acoustic
The Indow Acoustic is made by the Portland-based company Indow, which specializes in window inserts, sometimes called storm windows. The company has made several unique advances in both the window frame work, as well as the window glass. The framework is made from a compression tubing that sits tightly in the window opening and, once installed, is virtually unnoticed by the homeowner.
The "glass" is actually an acrylic glazing that is nearly impossible to distinguish from real window glass, at least to the "untrained eye." The result is a flexible and affordable window option that is much easier and less expensive than replacement windows.
