Double Glazed Windows
Double glazed windows are a popular and energy-efficient option for homeowners looking to save money on heating and cooling costs. Basically, double glazed windows consist of two panes of glass with a layer of air or gas in between them. This space provides insulation and prevents heat from escaping. As such, the end result is a much more energy efficient window over single glazed or paned aluminum windows of yesteryear. The result for homeowners is that they save money on heating during the winter months, as well as cooling during the summer months.
It's important to note that the term "glazed" is more or less synonymous with the word "pane." So when we talk about double glazed windows, we are essentially saying double pane. The latter term is much more commonly used in the United States.
Double Glazed Cost Factors
The cost of double glazed windows can vary depending on the size and shape of the window. Additionally, windows with unusual shapes or features will typically be more expensive. Also, the style of the window can also affect the cost. For example, a more ornate or decorative window like an octagon will cost more than a standard, plain window.
Another factor that can impact cost is the frame material used. The most common materials used for double glazed windows are uPVC, wood-clad, and aluminium. Vinyl or uPVC is a popular choice due to its affordability and low maintenance requirements, while wood-clad is often chosen for its natural look and durability. Aluminium is a lightweight and strong option that is often used for commercial buildings, but it typically poor in terms of energy efficiency.
The cost of DPW will certainly be affected by the installation process required. Additionally, it is important to choose a reputable and experienced installer to ensure that your double glazed windows are properly installed and sealed. Poor installation can result in drafts and other issues that can impact energy efficiency.
The cost of double glazed windows can range from a few hundred dollars to several thousand dollars. Again depending on the size, style, materials, and installation process. However, the investment in double glazed windows will pay off in the long run by reducing energy bills and improving the comfort and value of the home.

Okna Windows vs Wincore
Hello John, our condominium association has given us a choice of OKRA 400 or Wincore 5400 series double glazed replacement windows and sliding doors for our one bedroom unit. So, my question for you, is how do these two compare and which would you recommend?

Website Editor's Answer
Penny, the Okna 400 window is the much better option over the Wincore 5400 series. Therefore, this really is a no brainer as far as I'm concerned. Essentially, the Okna brand is my number one pick for vinyl windows and doors.
