Egress Window Cost

The cost to add egress windows will vary considerably. Do it yourself projects might run $1500 for the window and the work involved to install. High end projects that involve significant installation work can run $6000 or more.

Additional factors that can affect the overall project price include the following - your location (whether you live in a rural or urban area, an expensive or less state). Certainly, the company that you hire will have a significant impact on cost. While a handman's hourly rate might be $40 to $70 an hour, a large professional company's rate is undoubtedly higher.

Significant price differences is the reason we always suggest getting multiple project bids.

Popular Egress Window Options

The biggest issue in terms of selecting the right basement window is all about the opening size. This is why casement windows are the most popular selection (as seen in this egress window pictures). Because the window opens completely, you aren't required to have as large a window as with other options.

For instance, a single hung window opens roughly 50% when the sash is completely up. Same goes for a horizontal slider (although here basically turned on its side). Therefore, in order satisfy county building code(s), you would have to put in a larger single hung or slider to get that same egress opening. These three selections are by far the most popular basement window options.
