Worst Window Brands | Silverline

Simply put, Silverline is not a very good window brand. I don't know what else to say here. They are sold in the big box stores and are very reasonable in terms of what they cost.

These windows will often not hold up over time and by year 12 to 15 will have all kinds of issues. It's why they are sold at such a low price point. I guess you are getting what you pay for in this instance.

Worst Window Brands | Crestline

Crestline sells budget vinyl and wood windows that is often available in home improvement stores like Menards, etc. Specifically, the company offers a 250 and 350 vinyl series, as well as an Elite Clad wood window with exterior aluminum cladding. Crestline vinyl windows could be used on budget projects or house flips, but I don't feel they offer the quality or energy efficiency that will last for an sustainable time.

Worst Window Brands | Crystal Pacific

Crystal (or Crystal Pacific on the west coast) is another low end brand that markets their windows/doors to the lowest price point consumers. I get not wanting to spend money on windows, but you just aren't buying much value here.

Worst Window Brands

John, you talk a lot about the best window brands on the market, but I was hoping you could touch upon what you thought the worst window brands are out there. Not so much to call them out, but more just so that us uneducated homeowners know what to stay away from. This would really help me out as I’ve been looking at Lowe’s and Home Depot, really just don’t understand what options I should consider from there and what options I should not even touch. I love the site it really helps us to understand what our best buying options are for replacement windows. Thank you so much.

Website Editor's Answer

Charlene, we definitely try to help out our users to figure out what are the best and the worst window brands out there. I will throw out a couple of names and brands that are probably best avoided. Number one is Crestline, number two is Silver line, number three is possibly United. Those would be my top three. I’m sure that I can come up with a bunch more as they are as there are a number of pretty poor vinyl window brands out there. Instead of just a cart blanche what is bad, this is what I would suggest. Get some bids from places that are not Lowe’s and Home Depot, basically local companies and that sort of thing. Our form on the page can really help with that. They are pretty decent companies that provide window bids and you’re really under no obligation to use them so get the bids and then send those bids to me and I will help you navigate them and find the best option for your hard earn dollar.

Worst Window Brand List

John, we’ve been looking at Crestline windows but they’re listed under your worse window brands. Are they really that bad?

Noelle - Homeowner - October, 2023

Website Editor's Answer

Noelle, yes, I think it’s fair to say that Crestline is not a solid brand. I just think that if you’re looking for long-term value, there are much better options than Crestline vinyl windows. I’m happy to send you my list of recommended windows for your consideration. But I would avoid Crestline if it all possible.
