MW&D sells three distinct window lines, which includes Windgate (new construction vinyl window and patio door), The Belmont (standard vinyl window and patio door), and The Hawthorne(upgraded vinyl window and patio door).

The upgraded Hawthorne series comes standard with the InnovativE insulating glass package, a better Clear-Vue screen, and several interior faux wood frame options. The Belmont does not.

The Belmont Cost: $800 installed

The Hawthorne Cost: $900 installed

Midway Windows Warranty

The company offers what they call their Assurance Plus Warranty. The Assurance Plus offers a labor warranty good for five years from the date of purchase. Additionally, the windows are covered for a lifetime against manufacturing defects and the original owner can transfer the warranty to a second owner for up to twenty years from the date of purchase. All in all, this is a very solid window warranty.

Chicago Replacement Windows

Hi John, I found your site and wanted to get your recommendations in how to go about our window project. For some quick background, we live in a north suburb of Chicago, and when we moved in late 2018, all the windows were very old (many single-pane; one picture window currently has 1984 stamped in the seal). We replaced our bedroom windows with Pella 350 windows in early 2019, which have been decent, though now discontinued. We need to do our last few windows (2 XOX configurations; 2 x 24" wide operable on either side of a 68" wide picture for each configuration).

Besides the obvious need to upgrade efficiency, we also have sound issues. We are near a freight train, and we have come to find that there were some recent FAA changes for both Chicago O'Hare and the local Executive airports, so plane noise is quite bothersome.

I started with quotes from Home Depot (Simonton 6500 series, discarded due to bad reviewed; and Anderson 100, currently an option at ~$8K), but those seem eh. I also discarded the Lowes Pella 250 between cost and other middling reviews. I am getting a quote from EV Windows and Doors this week for Advanced Window 6300 Series (initial quote ~$5K, but looking into upgrade options for sound, etc.). Have poked around Midway windows, but haven't yet gotten a quote.

Do you have any recommendations of other brands and/or installers near Chicago that might be good to look into for the XOX replacements described above? Also, would it make sense to consider something like Soundproof Windows on top of the existing Pella 350s in the bedrooms? Any feedback you have is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Website Editor's Answer

Santosh, here are my Chicago recommendations: (would it make sense to consider something like Soundproof Windows on top of the existing Pella 350s in the bedrooms) Without seeing the windows, I'm not sure I can make a solid recommendation one way or the other. However, I would absolutely ask each and every company that comes out that very question and see if you can come to a conclusion based on the aggregate opinions of your local companies. Additionally, I would definitely get a bid from Midway as they seem to offer some quality products.
