Atrium 8900 Windows Reviews

The Atrium 8900 window is the premium vinyl replacement window in the company's rather large product catalogue. The 8900 model is available in the double hung, picture and slider window. Standard features include tilt in sashes, low-e glass, fiberglass reinforced frame, extruded full screen, and a constant force balancing system. The 8900 offers some good performance ratings that surprised me a bit. All in all, I would have to give this vinyl window a thumbs up, assuming you get a fair price point and quality installation. The Atrium 8900 Window Series gets a 4.2 out of 5 star rating.

Atrium 8900 Windows Ratings

The Atrium 8900 double hung window will vary depending on the glass, upgrades and features that you opt for. U-factor will vary from .32 to .28, SHGC will vary from .36 to .17, and VT will vary from .50 to .22. Consumers can expect the 8900 series to offer a DP60 (at size 36" x 74") and get right around a 0.10 air infiltration. This is usually my over under for AI so I'm going to have to give the 8900 window a thumbs up for its air infiltration.

These numbers are from the nfrc.org websites, the National Fenestration Ratings Council. The site posts performance ratings for 1000s of window models.

Atrium 8900 Windows Warranty

The Atrium 8900 window has a limited lifetime warranty on the vinyl mainframe, hardware, sash and components. The IGU (insulated glass unit) is covered for a 30 year period. After 15 years, the IGU is not covered completely, the percentage amount decreases slightly with each passing year. For instance, at year 25, the company covers half the replacement cost.

The Atrium 8900 warranty includes a Lifetime Glass Breakage provision, which is quite a nice feature. In addition, the warranty can be transferred to another owner, although then the warranty period is good for only 10 years from the date of purchase.

Atrium 8901 Casement Quote

I need to replace a large bay with three casements and I have 2 quotes so quotes so far. One in on the Atrium 8900 for $2700. The second bid is on the Polaris Ultraweld casement and that is for $1900.

Website Editor's Answer

June, of the two options you have, the Polaris is the better window. Atrium makes an okay window, but they simply aren't in the same ballpark as the Polaris Ultraweld. The energy efficiency numbers such as u-factor, dp, ai, and vt bears out this fact.
