Marvin Essential Windows Reviews

Marvin, headquartered in Minnesota, is a well known and well respected window brand in the United States. While certainly not cheap, Marvin Windows and Doors manufactures some of the best fiberglass windows that tend to stand the test of time.

The Marvin Essential Collection is an all fiberglass model and the newest series, along with the Marvin Elevate Collection, from the company. For decades, the Marvin fiberglass lineup included the Marvin Integrity window and the Infinity fiberglass window, with the Ultimate wood clad window is the premium series. In 2019, Marvin switched up their product lines with the Essentials and Elevate Collections. Fancy wording to be sure.

The Integrity became the Essential Collection, an All Ultrex window, which is the company's proprietary name for their fiberglass material. The Essentials is available as an insert or pocket window (no nailing fin) or as a new construction window (includes a nailing fin). For me, this is a very solid option if the window window price point is not too expensive.
The Marvin Essentials Collection gets a 4.5 out of 5 star rating.

Marvin Essential Windows Cost

Expect Marvin Essential Windows cost to be $1200 to $1700 fully installed. This is a significant price increase from years past due to increased consumer demand, inflationary affects, and supply chain issues. Some of the main drivers of price include the type of installation required, the size of the openings, the conditions of frames and sills, and the company who is doing the actual install. Compare Marvin Essential windows cost to Milgard Ultra pricing and Pella Impervia windows cost.

-- Window Itself: $1050 to $1350 --

-- Installation: $150 to $350 per opening --

-- Fully Installed: $1200 to $1700 --

Marvin Essential Window Ratings

The Marvin Essential delivers okay numbers -- I'm always surprised that they aren't a bit better, particularly the air infiltration rating. The window delivers a a U-value of 030, SHGC of 0.27, and an air infiltration rating of 0.25.

While the first two measures are fine, an AI of .25 is really not very good. Not when you compare it to a high end vinyl window like the ProVia Endure windows with an air infiltration rating of 0.02.

Marvin Essential Window Warranty

The Marvin Essential warranty includes a 20 year provision for the IGU or insulated glass unit (10 years on products exceeding 60 square feet), Components and hardware is warranted for 10 years from the time of purchase. The exterior cladding is warranted for 20 years, except in coastal regions where this period drops to 10 years.

There are lots of exclusions and exceptions included in this warranty. All in all, the warranty is pretty poor in my opinion. As always, warranties are often changing so ALWAYS read the warranty specific to the window series you are purchasing.

Marvin Essential vs Renewal By Andersen

Hey, I'm trying to decide between the Marvin Essential vs Renewal By Andersen. Which is the better deal -- the price quotes are roughly equal. Thanks in advance! Renewal By Andersen Prices

Website Editor's Answer

Hi Brian, in the Marvin vs Renewal By Andersen match up, I'm going to give the nod to Marvin. I think the Essentials is the higher quality product. While I don't love the warranty, I do like the actual window better than the fibrex option. I find the quality and craftsmanship of Marvin to be superior to Renewal. Other industry insiders might disagree with this assessment, but that's my take.
