Ply Gem Contractor Windows Reviews

The Ply Gem Contractor window is the entry-level vinyl replacement window that is typically reserved for lower end projects. Most contractors and industry insiders aren't going to recommend that consumers purchase the entry-level Ply Gem vinyl window. The reason is that the window is not going to offer the sort of long-term durability and value that most consumers should be looking for. The Ply Gem premium window, on the other hand, is one of our recommended mid range vinyl windows, assuming a fair price point.

The Contractor model comes standard with features that include a cam action sash lock, a 3 1/4 inch frame depth, equal sight lines, tilt in sashes on the hung windows, an integral interlock system, double weatherstripping, an extruded aluminum half screen, and two ventilation latches. The Contractor window model can be ordered in either a beige or white on both the interior and the exterior.

Ply Gem Contractor Windows Ratings

In terms of performance, consumers can expect the standard low-e glass to deliver a U factor of .30, the HP 2+ glass package to deliver a U factor of .27 and the HP to Max class package to deliver a U factor of .25. The SHGC will vary from .46 to .22 depending on the glass and optional upgrades that you opt for. VT will vary from .55 to .36 based on these same factors. The air infiltration on the Contractor model will be around .19, which is a pretty poor AI number and one of the reasons that I don't recommend this window model.

These numbers come from both the nfrc.org websites as well as the Ply Gem site. In general, these are pretty decent numbers for an entry level window.

Ply Gem Contractor Window Warranty

The Ply Gem Contractor model comes with a Lifetime Limited Warranty that applies to all vinyl components. The the insulating glass unit, or IGU, carries a 10 year warranty provision.
